The future is now.

Where is the utopia? In the past, people used their imaginations to dream up the perfect world of the future, and they believed technology could make our lives easier and help pass the time. Life is easier, but with that ease comes dependence. Now that the future is here, thought has been replaced by mechanical devices. These machines are everywhere and are slowly relieving our brain of its duties.

In the olden days, when people wanted to enjoy a tune while walking down the street, they would place their lips together and create a high-pitched sound. They called it whistling. In the future, we have small pocket robots called iPods that sing the latest hit songs to us. Instead of daydreaming or escaping into the imagination, people of the future are able to use these devices to play videos from Hollywood.

In the olden days, when two people wanted to converse, they would walk to a designated location and speak into each other's faces. In the future, it is no longer necessary to meet or even see friends. The phone has evolved into a device that no longer requires human interaction. People can be reached via text. Vocal chords are no longer required for the phones of the future.

In the future, when a person has a problem, it is no longer necessary to ask fellow humans for help. All one has to do is type a question into a search box on their computer. Technology will magically answer even the most embarrassing of questions without judgment.

Children of the future have no need to play tag or risk bruising their knees when playing out in the world. They use computer entertainment boxes that allow them to blow each other up from the comfort of their couch at home. They can even kill strangers on these boxes without the worry of an inconvenient prison sentence.

In the olden days, people had no choice but to listen to their own thoughts during the silence of the day. It was life. In the future, silence, thought and reflection are a waste of time. Instead of thinking, people in the future use their technology to fill their brains with ready-made entertainment.

In the future, technology is life, and because of it, people have forgotten that they exist. Why are these future people ignoring themselves? Are they afraid of thinking? Perhaps people just don't like what their brains will say to them. But brains are important. They're what make thinking, solving problems and ideas happen. Isn't that what life is?

What happened to the future?

People have shut off their brains. All this technology is making the human brain obsolete. What is the point of a utopia if there are no brains to absorb and enjoy it?

Unplug and remove the ear buds. Let the brain breathe. It is capable of imagining and creating things that not even the most advanced computer ever could.

The future is now.
